Who am I?

Joanna with Director, Writer, and Voice Actor Eric Stuart (July 2021)

My name is Joanna Muthig (They/Them), though most people just call me Joan. Ever since I was a kid I’ve had a passion for storytelling, and throughout the 25 years I’ve been on earth that has manifested itself in a variety of ways. This August I will be graduating from Southern New Hampshire University with a BA in Creative Writing, and I’d like to use this website to share my journey into the professional world and serve as a place for fans and aspiring writers to watch, learn, and hopefully have some fun.

My main field is the medium of screenwriting, meaning I basically write the scripts for plays, tv shows, and movies. Though I like to dwell in many genres like sci-fi and drama, my brand is mainly built in the world of horror. Horror is my favorite genre because it’s often very daring and willing to touch on the uncomfortable parts and problems of the world and when done well, can create exposure and discussion of serious topics like discrimination, abuse, and mental health. Whether I’m writing a screenplay for a short film or feature-length narrative, I always try to put the focus on the main characters and have the fear come from the serious problems they face both internally and externally.

But while I primarily focus on screenwriting, it’s not the only medium I like to dabble in from time to time. On this blog, I hope to also post some short stories, do some fun writing exercises and games, and share my experiences with writing in all sorts of ways you may not think of, such as when hosting table-top roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons.

That’s about everything we need in the introduction, so now that you’re up to speed, what say we take the first step and begin our journey into the world of writing!
